Which ad network should you target?

If you have under 10,000 sessions

Start with AdSense for approval practice, then apply to Ezoic immediately. Ezoic has no minimum and consistently outperforms AdSense RPM. Use Ezoic as your bridge network while you build toward Mediavine Journey or Mediavine.

If you have 10,000–49,999 sessions

You qualify for both Monumetric and Mediavine Journey. Of the two, Mediavine Journey is typically better for bloggers in their path toward full Mediavine - it keeps you within the Mediavine ecosystem and the transition is seamless once you cross 50,000 sessions.

If you have 50,000–99,999 sessions

Apply to Mediavine now if you have not already. This is the single most impactful ad network upgrade available to mid-size bloggers. The RPM jump from AdSense or Ezoic to Mediavine is typically 2x to 3x on the same traffic.

If you have 100,000+ sessions with 40%+ US traffic

You qualify for Raptive. Whether to switch depends on your current Mediavine RPM. Raptive pays more in certain niches (finance, home, food) but the difference is not always dramatic. Request a comparison RPM estimate from Raptive before switching.

Frequently asked questions

Does Mediavine require 50,000 sessions or pageviews?

Sessions. Not pageviews. Sessions are typically 10 to 20% fewer than pageviews because one session can include multiple pageviews. If your analytics shows 50,000 pageviews, your sessions are roughly 40,000 to 45,000 - you may not quite qualify yet.

What is the difference between Mediavine and Mediavine Journey?

Mediavine Journey is a lower-tier program from the same company that accepts sites with 10,000+ sessions. It uses a different revenue share model but keeps you in the Mediavine ecosystem. When your site crosses 50,000 sessions, you can upgrade to full Mediavine.

Can I run Ezoic while working toward Mediavine?

Yes. Many bloggers use Ezoic as their bridge ad network from 0 to 50,000 sessions, then switch to Mediavine. Ezoic pays better than AdSense and the switch away is straightforward.

Does it matter which country my traffic comes from?

It matters significantly for RPM, but only Raptive has a hard geographic requirement (40%+ US traffic). Mediavine and Mediavine Journey accept any geographic mix, though higher US traffic generally means higher RPM.

Final thought

Ad network upgrades are one of the clearest leverage points in blogging. The same content and the same traffic can earn 2x or 3x more just by switching networks at the right time.

Use this checker to know exactly where your threshold is. Then focus your traffic growth on crossing it - because the network on the other side of 50,000 sessions changes what your blog is worth.
