How I Got Started
I created my Benable account six weeks ago.
My first lists were about gardening products. I have a gardening blog so it felt like a natural fit. Those lists got views but did not convert well. Gardening products are a considered purchase. People browse, save for later, and often do not buy immediately.
I switched focus to books, specifically personal finance and self improvement books. Books are an easy purchase. Someone looking for a book recommendation has usually already decided they want to buy a book. The only remaining question is which one. That buyer intent converts at a completely different rate.
That shift in focus is what led directly to my first two commissions.
January 17th 2026. A stranger bought Principles: Life and Work by Ray Dalio in hardcover through my Books That Build Confidence, Mental Strength, and Long-Term Success list. Commission earned: $1.64 plus a 10% new user bonus.
March 1st 2026. A different stranger bought Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman in paperback through the same list. Commission earned: $2.09.
Total earned: $3.73. From a list I had not promoted anywhere. From two people I will never meet.

Four other lists have earned the Near-Optimized status. These include books for broke 20 year olds, investing books for beginners, best finance books for your 20s, and Books That Teach You To Invest From Scratch list, ranging from 10 to 18 items each.
Two lists cover gardening. One for beginner gardening tools and one for plants for small spaces. Both are Optimized. Both get views. Neither has converted yet.

Five people follow my Benable profile organically with zero effort on my part to grow that number.
Earnings: $3.73
Both commissions came from organic discovery inside Benable. No external traffic sent. No Pinterest. No blog. No email list. Pure platform discovery.
How The Optimized Badge Works
This is something nobody explains clearly and it directly affects how much visibility your lists get inside Benable's discovery system.
Benable has an internal optimization system that rewards lists meeting specific quality standards. When your list meets those standards it earns the Optimized badge. Optimized lists get better placement in Benable's discovery feed which means more organic views from people browsing the platform.
To earn the Optimized badge Benable recommends 15 to 20 high quality recommendations per list with genuine individual descriptions written by you. Not copied product descriptions. Not manufacturer copy. Your own honest sentences explaining why you recommend each item specifically.
My personal finance books list has 18 items with custom descriptions for each one. That list earned the Optimized badge and is responsible for most of my views so far.
My gardening lists are also optimized with 10 items each. They get views but have not converted. The lesson there is that the badge gets you visibility inside the platform. What converts those views into purchases is the buyer intent of the people finding your list.
Books convert because people finding a books list want to buy books. Gardening tools require more consideration before purchase.
What Nobody Tells You Before You Sign Up
Three things I wish I had known before creating my first list.
It is a numbers and waiting game.
One list will not make you significant money. Ten focused lists targeting different buyer intent topics gives you ten simultaneous conversion opportunities running in the background. The more quality lists you build, the more passive income potential you create. This is obvious in hindsight but most people sign up expecting one list to do all the work.
Your niche choice matters more than your effort.
I spent time building gardening lists and they have not converted. My personal finance books list earned money without any promotion. The difference is not effort. The difference is buyer intent. Build lists around things people are actively looking to buy, not things people browse passively. Books, digital products, specific tools for specific problems, beginner gear for specific hobbies. These categories convert. General lifestyle and home decor lists tend to browse well and convert poorly.
Discovery alone is not a strategy.
Benable's internal discovery system is real. It found my lists and delivered two paying customers without me doing anything. But relying solely on that discovery system is slow. The faster path to the $80 payout threshold is sending your own traffic to your lists. Benable is not a get rich quick scheme. Two commissions in six weeks from a single list is proof of mechanism not proof of scale. The path from $3.73 to $100 per month requires more lists, more focused niche selection, and some external traffic strategy. That is honest and worth knowing before you start.

Think of each list you build as a small asset that has the potential to earn independently. Ten assets earning $10 per month each is $100 per month in passive income. That is a realistic target within 12 months for someone who builds consistently.
